“I Didn’t Realise How Much Trauma That Put Me In”- Kirk Franklin

Adopted

No Father

Abandoned

And yet, Kirk Franklin has become one of the world’s most influential musicians for this generation. Yes, we know that Father’s Day was a few weeks ago, but here at 2BRealMagazine, whenever something of substance touches my heart I just have to share it.

Kirk Franklin has shared his life with us. On the stage. Off the stage. The pornography. The betrayal he felt growing up without a father. His marriage.  And yet he has become a true testament that you don’t have to look the fire you have been through.

This Father’s Day,  with his first music festival Exodus being a complete success he took the time out to share the importance of the journey from a Father’s perspective. For Uncle Kirk, his life’s mission was to  be

“intentional on not being what I never had”

For those that grew up without fathers, there is a common consensus on the pain that we share. I share it too. And, as a mother who is raising a child without her father, this clip resonated with me. Like Uncle Kirk, we want our children to understand that we never want them to feel the pain we did, and although I cannot be what a man should be for mine, I know that the Lord will provide all of our needs according to His riches in glory.

To all the fathers out there doing what they should be doing, I salute you.

And to the mothers doing it without I salute you. We will never have to bear the conscious of those that chose not to do. So we will hold our heads high and thank God for what He has strengthened us to do.
