And All That I Went Through To Get Here Was Worth It

Here at 2BReal, we are all about analyzing trends in what’s taking place in the Kingdom

For entrepreneurs with Kingdom faith and principles, alongside industries being formed for the Christian culture, we wanted to take time out to celebrate the movement taking place in the UK.

2BRealMagazine was birthed to celebrate great content, great people and great businesses that are representing the Christian faith loud and proud. We pray that this series will be an inspiration to our readers not just here in the UK, but around the world and that the people’s lives will touch hearts, speak passion to birth purpose to everyone.

Antoinette Tuff is the well-known prominent figure who heroically stopped a shooter from taking the lives of innocent children at a local school in America. Five years on, the survivor, author and speaker is the founder of the non-profit called Kids on the Move for Success and an expert in School and Community Safety.

Awed by her story, courage and faith to develop a successful business, I spoke to Antoinette and got personal about her TIME premiere and everything that has changed since “that” moment.

2BReal: Let’s start with the moment that changed so many lives globally. Five years on and your heroic act is a pillar of hope in today’s world. How does that make you feel?

AT: It makes me feel great, humble and appreciative because for the first time I am able to change lives and save souls for the Kingdom of God.  When you are able to see the smiles on children’s faces that are homeless, foster and live in at-risk communities, see a world outside of what they see every day it makes life worth living for and all that I went through to get here was worth it including losing in my 33-year marriage.

2BReal: What is the one thing that has changed the most in your life since August 20th 2013?

AT: I have a Mentoring Program back in the school district where the gunman held me hostage on August 20th.  2017 – 2018 was our first year and we were able to impact approximately 3,000 students and families with the program. We are going into our second school year and we will impact even more students and families in Georgia and now have expanded into Texas.

2BReal: How are your children doing? How has the change in your life impacted theirs?

AT: My children are doing great.  My son and daughter are living their lives and raising my grandchildren. I love being a grandmother and impacting their lives. My son is now living a full life despite his disabilities and helping homeless families in the Utah area.  He is bringing my legacy in another state.

2BReal: When did you realise that “Prepared For Purpose” was needed for the world?

AT: I realized that when I was suicidal and needing someone to help save my life.  God sent people to help me to realize that life is worth living. I am now showing others with my presentation called Conversation in the Crosshairs that each one of us is PREPARED for a PURPOSE by showing, compassion, confidence, and control in both good and bad times. I was also amazed when “Faith Under Fire,” a Lifetime movie starring Toni Braxton had over 8 million viewers, one of the most watched television premiers. We had so many visits to my website that it crashed because God was changing lives through the movie.

2BReal: In your opinion, what has been the greatest achievement that has been actioned in America since your heroic act?

AT: Kids on the Move for Successes sponsored Community and School SafetyTown Hall meetings to allow our children to have a voice after the school shooting in Parkland, Florida. Additionally, I have been part of the March for Our Lives movement in which children from all over the world have come together to support sensible gun legislation to end gun violence. I spoke at the March for Our Lives at Georgia State Capitol and National Die in Day at the US Capitol in Washington, D.C. Recently, I was also a keynote speaker at the Texas School Safety Conference in Corpus Christi.  On September 18th, we will have an opportunity to speak with the Georgia State Senate about changing legislation to protect our schools and communities.  Becoming a school safety expert and helping to prevent others from having a conversation in the crosshairs has been one of my greatest achievements.

2BReal: How did the opportunity come about to work with Bishop T.D. Jakes for “Faith Under Fire”?

AT: Bishop Jakes is my pastor and spiritual Father. I knew he would present my story that would represent God well and that souls could be saved as a result of someone watching the movie.

2BReal: What was that process like?

AT: The process was great. I had Bishop T. D. Jakes, Sony Pictures Television, Lifetime, Toni Braxton and a great team working together to make an impactful movie and documentary of my life. I do admit that it was a dream come true to see my story come to life. God is Great!

2BReal: You have spoken at many prestigious events. Which one has been the most memorable?

AT: I consider it an honour to positively impact so many with my professional speaking career. If I had to pick just one I would say Texas Schools Safety Conference. There was law enforcement, educators, students and the community coming together to impact students’ lives. I am humbled that they consider my Tuff Tactics of compassion, confidence and control an important part of the solution.

My second would be the Arsenio Hall Show.  It was the best Valentine Day in my entire life and if I ever had another opportunity to meet him, I would like to thank him personally for loving on me that day and making the show all about me.

2BReal: Who has been your biggest inspiration throughout this journey and why?

AT: My mentor Hattie Hill.  She has been by my side through the ups and downs. She has loved me unconditionally as God has taken me on this amazing journey.

2BReal: As a crisis communications specialist, author, mother and speaker, how do you balance and manage your time?

AT: I start my day off with God first every day at 6:00 am, 6:30 am and 8:00 am on Prayer Lines.  I give God his time and then I work.  This keeps me focused on putting God first and my needs second. It allows God to know that he is in control and I can’t and won’t do it without Him.

2BReal: What is your favourite scripture that gives you comfort, confidence and composure?

Psalms 23
