It Is About Time Christian Leaders Fought Poverty and Oppression
David Barber from The Zimbabwean newspaper has recently written an interesting article looking at his perspective and opinion on how effective leaders have become in regards to dealing with oppression and poverty.
His opinion piece challenges the outlook of the Zimbabwe’s Roman Catholic bishops who issued a Pentecostal pastoral letter.
The letter which requested President Robert Mugabe to be reminded of the Christian doctrine as they get closer to election time challenged the concept of why do denominations, not just the Catholic Church, indulge in pleas to governments?
Is it so they can be “seen to be doing something” by their congregations, even though the reality of their leadership and power will be less effective as the African government elites do not regard the church?
