Jared Sawyer Jr is triple threat +2. President of You Power Purpose, the American conglomerate who has been in business over 16 years is also recognised worldwide as a preacher, author, speaker & actor. Fascinated with his inspirational presence on social media, I wanted to learn more about Jared and how he manages to maintain excellence in all areas… consistently.

2BReal: You are a young man with many talents. What came first? The preaching, acting or writing?

JSJr: Preaching: I accepted my call into the gospel ministry at the age of 5. I started preaching shortly after accepting my calling and began evangelizing around the country; having have been licensed since the age of 7 and ordained at age 15. I wrote and published my first book, “I Belong To God”, at the age of 15, followed by my second book at age 17, third at 19 and fourth, now current at age 20.

The desire to act came in at age 19 after a small part I played in Tyler Perry’s Boo 2: A Madea Halloween that came out in October 2017. I also have another role I’m playing in an upcoming film starring Taraji P. Henson that should be coming out sometime in the fall of this year. At one point when I was younger, I recall wanting to act a little bit, but I never took it seriously. Now, I’m open to playing roles that I’m passionate about and getting more involved in film and television, perhaps even producing my own projects.

2BReal: Tell us a little about your family. Does anyone else preach, write or act?

JSJr: I come from a church-going family but not necessarily a family engulfed in ministry. My mother is a teacher and my father is a truck driver. I’ve always found myself inspired by their faith and it’s been a prompter of hope and motivator of opportunity.

2BReal:  When it comes to acting, what is it that intrigues you to strengthen this passion?

JSJr: I feel as though acting offers an opportunity to encapsulate a character that you’re passionate about. For me, I get the chance to discover more about myself while exploring the storyline behind a character. I’m a “people’s person”, so acting is right up my alley.

2BReal: What triggered the need to become a writer? How long have you been writing for?

JSJr: Preaching and speaking are wonderful. But, sometimes people need something to tangibly hold on to, to refer back to when they’re looking for their hope to be restored or their faith to be triggered. I wanted to share my story about how I accepted my call into ministry, the challenges I faced, the lessons I’ve learned along the way, so I decided to write my first book “I Belong To God” to show people how to stay on the Christian path to success. I’ve been writing practically all of my life but wanted to share my writings with the world at the age of 15.

2BReal: Who are you inspired by and why?

JSJr: I am first and foremost inspired by every person who encourages me; whether that’s through social media or in person. To hear the impact that my efforts are leaving on people leaves me speechless. It motivates me to move forward because I know I’m operating in my purpose and in the gratefulness of God using me as a vessel to do his will. I’m inspired by leaders such as Dr Bernice A. King, a mentor who I look up to greatly and has imparted so much wisdom and grace upon me over the years showing me what servant leadership really looks like; Bishop T.D. Jakes, one of our greatest generals in the Christian faith who I emulate his ministry as a relatable, engaging, and impactful; and so many others.

2BReal: As an entrepreneur and minister in the faith, how do you balance your time?

JSJr:  Ever since I can remember, I’ve always been very poignant about my time and task management. I’m extremely consistent in that – making sure that nothing and no one wastes my time. I’m a true believer that my time is all I have to account for. The balance of work, ministry, family, and leisure is extremely important to make sure you’re not overly consumed and incapacitated. I put my time into the right things and keep people around me on a constant basis who help in ensuring that it the case.

2BReal: What has been the greatest challenge you have faced in building your brand, business and ministry?

JSJr: One of the greatest challenges I have faced is ageism. I’ve experienced much stereotyping, discrimination and prejudice from individuals much older than me.  Who refuse to pass the baton and allow myself and other young leaders to pick up the mantle set before us, to follow the examples of our ancestors with belief that we can do great work for our generation. I’ve learned how to weave in between this adversity and lead by example for other young leaders to do the same.

2BReal: How important is social media now to your business and brand?

JSJr: I just found out that I reach almost 4 million people monthly on my social media. Social media has become extremely important in the mobilization of my business and brand. It’s the communication outlet between me and the world. I am grateful for social media because it invites people into your life and allows you to creatively tell your individual story

2BReal: How has your faith anchored you whilst building multiple entities to your career and ministry?

JSJr: My faith is my strongest asset. To know that above all things, God is in control, He always wins, and that his grace, mercy, and favour is continuously abounding us is rewarding to remember for me as I travel along several avenues in ministry and business.

2BReal: For some who may be inspired by what you do and want to also begin their career, what would be your advice for them in starting out?

JSJr: My advice is to just do it. You won’t always have the guidance or advice. You won’t always have the mentor at first to help you navigate. You won’t always know what’s next. But, whatever you do – just move, and keep moving. Don’t stop. You’ll never know what you’re capable of until you try.

2BReal: As a minister of the Gospel and entrepreneur, what is your favourite scripture that gives you comfort, confidence and composure?

JSJr: Philippians 4:13 – It’s been my favourite since my start in ministry. I believe that I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength!
