Love Being Made Complete- “Love Calls You Friend”

“Henceforth I call YOU not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his Lord doeth: but I have called you FRIENDS; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto YOU.”

Hi, everyone, how you doing? We would be pressing on with the final piece to the theme  “Love being made complete” series, discussing briefly “Love calls you friend”.

In the beginning, God sought for a being of whom would be molded in His very liking, like God Himself why? For the primary purpose of communion and fellowship. However, the serpent came crawling, serving up his deceitful plate of lies, that would, later on, create a void between God and Man. John 10 vs 3-4 speaks about whenever the sheep hear the master’s voice they run to the direction of His voice without thought or doubt of mind or heart.

However, it was painful I must say when God in fulfillment came in the cool of the day to visit man but was left astonished to find no way in sight, Adam, as he hid (alongside his wife, Eve) amongst the tree of the garden (Gen.3 v 8). This series of actions further severed the divine relationship God sought with the man, thus driving him out of His presence.

It is comforting to know that God had foreknew this predicament, in that he sought a perfect solution which can be found in John 3 v 16 (NKJV) which says

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Worth emphasizing is the series of events that happened upon Christ giving up His last breath, one which is of significance is found in Matt.27 v 51 (NKJV) which says

“And behold, the vail of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom, and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent… “.

This was a symbolic representation of God’s outstretched arms of love to restore the once lost divine relationship as in the garden of Eden.

From today’s text, it is worthy to note Jesus’ very words in John 15 v 15 when he made mention that Henceforth, He calls us NOT servants but friends. Why? Because God sought out to share the secrets of the Kingdom, His innermost thoughts, and burdens (Mark 4v11, Matt.13v11, Jer. 31 v 3) but most importantly His Heart.

Many biblical characters that portrayed such friendship includes Abraham (Gen.18 v 17), Paul (Gal.1 vs 15-16), Samuel (1 Samuel 3), David (2 Samuel 2 v 1) amongst others. Love came into the world through Christ Jesus, that through Him God sees in us the Love of Christ shed upon the cross of Calvary. This is what attracts the person of God unto us and to convey His heart unto us… Hallelujah!!!

In conclusion, we are admonished to celebrate the Love of Christ towards us that we, once enemies of God, are henceforth called His friends. Rom.5v5 (NKJV) says “And hope maketh not ashamed: because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. “Hosea 2v23 speaks of showing forth His love to us who was once called “Not my loved one”…. Calling us friends.

Loads of Love,

Michael Ihenacho
